Age of Madness: Clear and present Madness expansion

“A professional soldier understands that war means killing people, war means maiming people, war means families left without fathers and mothers.” - General Schwartzkopf

I already reviewed Age of Madness, but Visceral has recently relased free expansion called
A Clear and Present Madness . And What brings up this new expansion? for 18 page document lots. First thing is new elements - Air support, Arty support, Command posts, air observers and Mounts - horse and other animal riders.  It also includes new non-player elements - civilians, peacekeepers, news crew, factionless fighters and sensitive area (area terrain or marker where units cannot fight). it also include new actions for units such as calling air/arty strikes. New scenario based more on modern combat is included.

What most people asked about, there is rules for larger and smaller games with little twist how to improve your force.

Whole expansion is step out of post-apocalyptic setting into area of modern combat, which is interesting and now you can try, fight Soviets in Fulda Gap, give no quater to Taliban in A-stan or push back Chechnya rebels as leader of  Russian Federation rifle company choice is yours you can download it right here

Age of Madness introducing to club Spellcross edition

Well since now i dont have much choices to introduce new system to our club Fénix in Pilsen i decided to show AoM different that things before, i will go in series of two armies which i will present to our club.

I will need to build up at least two warbands for Age of Madness and hopefully find someone who will be willing to play since i like this game flexibility (maybe it can also with some modifications used for  Slovakian pc game Spellcross style games  About Spellcross which could attract even fantasy players since there are lot of nice 15mm fantasy figures)

while lot of things can be used and stated as current rules somethings wont - like dragons and flying beasts, mages and cavalry(but cavalry will be in expasion as Rebel minis has been asked with creating PA horse riders for Age of Madness). others are simple for close combat orks simple Blades element  while, Ka-Orks with Blades and hardened 1 attribute, Dark elf archers can be done with Hardened I rifle element, Wolf and Wolf riders could be Blades element with recon and hardened II attribute. Human troops will not use hardened attribute since armoured vest is nice thing but wont stop Ka-Ork axe.

Here is list of some 15mm Fantasy manufacturers
Eureka Miniatures do some nice ranges which can be used for Spellcross:Age of Madness (wow that sound as expansion :D) If you are European based they got UK distributor Fighting 15s

Ral Partha have their own fantasy range Deamonworld which is IMHO little WHFB inspired, sold in bulk packs so you can have you Other side army build up in no time

Tin Soldier also have some fantasy 15mm line but never saw them so i cannot tell

East Riding also have 15mm fantasy range but it is aged and lack details that modern minis have

Khurasan miniatures have also range not inspired by LOTR

Splinter light has extensive range of fantasy miniatures (maybe the largest one)

15mm.co.uk another extensive range of fantasy miniatures but again little aged

So what are you thoughts?

Warfare in Age of Madness.....

The year is 2066, Global civilization has collapsed, your country no longer exists, your company is your warband......

Warfare in Age of Madness is realitvly new game from Viseceral Impact Studios, and this their only game they do so far. I got this game for chirstmas although i tell my wife that i want this game.
This game is set in post apocalyptic future but not as far as some game, you and your followers are withness the fall, may it be zombie apocalypse, nuclear showers, war and etc. No matter what cause end of the world, the civilization is in ruin and states as we know cease to exist.

WiAoM is approx. company level IGOYGO game with some interesting mechanics, this game has many good points - it is easy to play, it is very cutomizable (in terms of building player armies and scenarios) and armies aren´t big so you can get into play in no time. Players "armies" will be formed of infantry bases, specialist teams and vehicles, the game itself didnt have air units (yet) but almost everything that come into your mind it is possible - you can have heavy weapons teams, AT Gun teams, tanks, apcs even hovercrafts or mechas.

Lets look on basic mechanics of game, as has been written above the system is I go You go, meaning first player will start his turn activating his units and performing actions and then his enemy takes turn. however units can be in Alert  or stalk mode (spending some of their precious Action Points) and then can take action as response to enemy action, they can move, shoot or even charge enemy unit - however the price of alert units they move very very slowly and since game is all about getting resources and loot and more time you use to deal with enemy less resources you will be able to recover, sometimes be cautiones it well worth but sometimes you just need to move quick, and get fast out of you can.

every unit have Action points usually 2(for example moving cost 1 AP while attack or charge cost 2 APs) apart from various units you force also have few attributes which defines how well your forces are organised and how good C2 systems their have first is motivation points  this are points which allow you add one AP to unit per point or allow roll of dice, after turn they replenish - ex-military units will have motivation 5 while bunch of rednecks will have 1 point. another is Network it means how good your communications and command structure is - if command element in alert status it can normaly give units inside command distance 3AP instead of standart 2, better then network is larger the distance is. Teamwork means how good your troops are in terms of performing other actions than shooting for example deploying mines, coordinating flank up maneovers and so on.

last is Moxie which basicly is morale. Speaking of morale there is suppresion system included which use what game named friction points. you are getting friction points if you fail your save (how many depends on if the weapon is blast weapon or not) vehicles can suffer friction points if they also suffer critical hit and stunned. maximum of friction points is 4, your forces will not panic and move of board but became almost uneffective on battlefield until they try to rally, they shoot worse, cannot move.

unlike similiar games (like FOW) WiAoM uses hitpoint system your units have two or more hitpoints (infantry teams for example have 2 HPs, infected horde AKA zombies have 6 HPs and MBT have 8) however if you have medic you can heal up your damaged infantry teams, and if you have enginners they can repair even damaged vehicles if they pass test. shoting is pretty straightforward as 40kay - to hit to wound and save roll, in case of vehicles if you able to score penetrating hit you will also need to roll to see if hit is critical hit - this hits can cause instant 4  Friction points representing stun of crew, disabling weapons or mobility system or destruction of vehicle outright.

Force creation rules are excelent, you will have few choices for your core forces - infantry equipped with blades (variours close combat weapons, excelent choice for various Mad max styled troops) infantry with bolt action  and hunting rifles, to squads equipped with Assault rifles and LMGs, you can little cutomize your troops with various special weapons such as grenade launchers, RPGs and AT weapons, some attributes like NLOS Antitank guided launchers, vehicles are more interesting - you choose hull, type of vehicle (soft skin , Armoured fighting vehicle, mecha, hover or tank), traits such as transport, open topped or some other and then choose weapons as count points (there is some limitations but you create vehicle stats in no time - i created HMMWV with 50.cal in few moments, the designer is flexibile and you can do almost anything. you can enhance your force by recruiting some mercenaries, aquiring zombies you launch on unsuspecting enemy or IED

What maybe someone bother is only one scenario in rules, but dont be afraid the scenario is flexibile and different everytime you play, scenario is about recovering 4 supply cashes, but there is catch you also leaving your own resources on table eg. field camp and if this captured it will cost you many (6) victory points while cache is worth 2 points and 1 for every scavanged loot marker (if you destroy enemy unit loot marker has replace the model this represent resources left behind and you can spend 1 AP to recover them) and also until start of the game you have no idea what will be your deployment zone which creates interesting Fog of War.

What i dont like about rules is lack of campaing rules which this game even scream about them, otherwise nice and solid system i will run few games but as i see it it nice system and with mechanics as their are you can use system for Cold war gone hot or modern wargaming

It´s a Tiger! Rubicon model Tiger I model kit review

When Rubicon models started annoucing plastic WW2 model kits i was really excited, but i dont need neither Sherman or Panzer IV, but when they annouced Tiger I i know i need one and that is story of Tiger 232.

Rubicon Tiger I Ausf. E Box

Rubicon model came in box with nice artwork, on backside of box you will find some info regarding Sd.kfz.
181 or Tiger I Ausf. E as is more commonly known. There is nice paint guide  similiar to Flames of War quick reference paint guide on their products.

Upon opening box you will find decal sheet, assembly instructions and four sprues containing everything you need to buildup a Tiger tank.
Nice feature is that every sprue is put into plastic bag to limit the transportation damage.
One of the sprues
The sprues are lettered so you will have no problem assembling the vehicle, the instructions are clear with various options for Early,Mid-ware and Late-war options as well with some notes about pieces of equippment. the Sprues use up almost every space, however some stowage sprue would be nice. every part fits nicely so you will build your Tiger in no time.

Instructions and decals
As i wrote instructions are nicely written and if i compared to my Half truck from Warlord Games, i must say
that Rubicon models as generation ahead. the material used is more durable (or it seems) and assembling it much easier as everything fits in. and finaly decal set contains tank numbers, german crosses and also Afrikakorps palms.

Overall i must recommend this kit, first plus is that currently it is only plastic Tiger on scene, second plus for materials used, third for easy assembly. i have no other choice than to recommend this kit. 4 stars of 5 for me
With Warlord Games USMC Figure

Timeline miniatures

Moving into new gaming club, i need to have some ww2 terrain although, there are some buildings for WH Fantasy, Mordheim and Malifux i wanted something more specific knowing that Timeline miniatures buildings are great i ordered some of them. Before my friend move out in to different town he owned timeline miniatures buildings from first time there was great - removable roofs level of cutomization when you build them and of course the price.
I ordered 4 buildings from Timeline miniatures on sunday and they arrived friday pretty fast if you ask me.  my list was two farmhouse ruins, one shed and small animal pen building. I assembled them yesterday so i will give you some pics so you will see how big they are and so on let´s start with Small animal pen building.

Well this kit is big for its price, you will get small barn and small pen for animals, the courtyard of this building is big enough to fit smaller tank, StuH42 has no problem so you should fit Stuart, or even Sherman there, building is big enough to provide shelter for one maybe two squads of infantry however, since building have no openings fields of fire are limited, this kit is so far my favorite - roofs removable to nicely move infantry inside and big courtyard.

another building is small shed while building isnt much big small squad, command or observer team can fit the building without problem, well the building isnt too small since you can hide tank behind it

The third building is ruined farmhouse which is one floor ruin, its big and can make great defense positions for infantry squads, the ruin itself unlike some other ruins i saw have various rooms so there can be lot of room to room fighting for them. there is also one sheet of "bits"

I can recommend Timeline miniatures, they are cheap, high quality detailed sets customer service is superB, way to go Timeline. You can expect more building reviews in 2015 as i need church as well as more buildings.

5150:Fighter Command "Quiet Patrol"

Haven´t played game for while but today i decided to give it some run, continue in my campaing and testing new classes. Both side now have light, medium and heavy fighters/bombers as well  as range of Capships.
so we left our campaing where few pilots has been rescued and squigs were heavily beaten. Now few weeks later Viper and Anubis are conducting patrol mission

Mission layout was simple - patrol few asteroids and two dust clouds, Viper and Anubis flew their Arrow light fighters. 3 PEFs we´re generated two in far side of mission area one in the middle.

Viper: "This is Alpha flight, entering mission area now picking up three bogies! closing on waypoint one."
Tarawa actual:"Tarawa actual, you are weapons free, godspeed"
Viper:  "Damn EWS detected us, wing of Lyco light fighters closing fast, we cant evade engaging!"

The mission went SNAFU from beginning at first activation i roll random event - spy sattelite so wing of Thr´engi light fighters appeared and close on Terran fighters, first but not last dogfight begun

Terran fighters gain the upperhand and engaged first, Anubis hit the enemy fighter pentrating hull, but squid remained in game, Viper hitted second fighter two times destroying his shield subsystem and damagining hull. now the squid returned fire, blewing Anubis, alien fighters then tried to outmaneover single fighter but they failed , Viper launched his rockets taking fighter down, second fighter tried perform yaw turn but failed. In second strafe Viper knocked off pilot and then return to patrol path

Viper: "Alpha 1 here! Enemy activity much larger than we though, Anubis is gone, i read no life pod, pressumed KIA"
Tarawa Actual: " Roger Alpha proceed with mission"
Viper: "IFF confrimed! two Teuthide medium fighters evading!"
First PEF was ghost siginal but second was two medium fighters, and Viper decided to make run around nebula to hit third waypoint, his arrow was way faster than Teuthides but he cannot outmached them in fair fight.

And Squid Lyco wing appeared just in near waypoint, and our hero was now outnumbered 4:1, there was no way how he can complete mission without be drawn into fight with squid and most propably will be destroyed in process, but still Viper decided to break through Lycos and then somehow hit the Teuthides hard.

Viper: "More squids picking up two Lycos in my fly path....."
Tarawa actual: "Break,Break disengage and RTB Viper!"
Viper: "Additional contacts! wait a minute.... picking up Alliance transponders!"
Hotshot: "This is Echo Flight from ANS Paris, looks like you could use hand"
Viper: "Glad to see you Hellcats, lets pop some squids!"
Tarawa actual: First order negative, proceed we are now dispatching SAR flight

Viper taked command of Hellcats now third fighters closed on Lyco fighters, engaging them Viper hit the side of first fighter blowing up his cockpit while Hotshot and Breakdown engaged second riping Thr´engi fighter appart. Teuthides fighter now come around cloud and once again Alliance fighters was on offensive , Hellcats fired their missle payload and blewing both fighters from sky. The fighters from first dogfight managed to wake up after be stunned for some turns and decided that this too much and turn tail and run.

The Alliance managed to reach second way point, but new Thr´engi wing arrived group of Teuthides joined the battle.

Hotshot: "Echo 1 to Alpha proceed to your final waypoint, we deal with these guys"
Viper: "Roger that, thanks for assist Hotshot"
Hotshot: " It was pleasure sir"

Viper make run for final waypoint while Hell cats engaged the Teuthides, ripping appart the first fighter second fighter survived and returned fire but without effect. Breakdown make second pass and blew him by obliterting his engines which explodes riping appart enemy fighter

Another succesfull mission, no improve in campaing but good game next mission will defense (i rolled on my table so every mission is generic instead of table)

Bolt Action:German army

Although i very like Bolt Action, i dont played game for some time, mainly because our german player left the city where we are located, and i dont like blue on blue games. I bought Fallschirmjager army some time ago, and yesterday i tried to paint some of the models so i can take on my friend who play British Paras army. Well i just cant paint splinter camo, but i found some Perry miniatures Afrikakorps i have at home.

We´ll the Perrys are somewhat smaller than rest of miniatures like Warlord,Artizan or others and i though to my self they can make good 12th SS troops. and paint first test trooper to see how it look like. The theme for army is Normandy, thats why my troops wont be equipped with STG44 since they we´re rare in Western Theatre. for a start i have two squads equipped with rifles and MGs and one with SMGs, mortar team and Platoon leader. I have also Stuh IV at my disposal and that will give me nice starting army.
Here is pic of first trooper (not complete painted to try camo)

Heavy Gear kickstarter

Some exciting news about Heavy Gear Blitz from Drop pod 9. When i was young i used to play Heavy Gear II pc game, excelent machines, background story and overall nice mecha game, it took years for me to realise that Heavy Gear is tabletop wargaming game also. However one thing always put me off  and that was pricetag of miniatures, but next year that will change and maybe Heavy Gear blitz become more played at clubs all around globe.

here is official post about kickstarter which will hopefully enhance HG line with plastic minis

"After reading everyone’s comments and feedback about our earlier idea of doing a Kickstarter this fall for the new edition Heavy Gear Blitz! Tabletop Wargaming Core Rules we have decided to change gear. Instead of a book, the Kickstarter, this October, will be for a new Core Starter Box with plastic miniatures and Quick Start Rules to get new players and old into the game and learning the new rules.

The Heavy Gear Blitz! War for Terra Nova - Core Starter Box will be a two player game with multi-player option, so you can play with a friend, or two, right away. It will include three armies of easy to assemble plastic miniatures from Terra Nova’s Northern Confederated City States (North) and New Coalition (NuCoal) factions, and Earth’s Colonial Expeditionary Force (CEF), with a mix of some new and existing models. One player plays both the Terra forces allied against the zealous CEF player, bent on recapturing Earth’s former colony. Multi-player option allows for 3 players, with each player controlling an army, and later stretch goals will additional multi-player options.

The first stretch goals will be to make three more faction armies available, the South and Peace River for Terra Nova and Caprice as an ally for the CEF. Later goals will include molds for more new and existing models, so that we can get most of the basic pewter models into plastic and have more competitive pricing. We have already started 3D modeling, with 20% complete to date, and are aiming to have them all finished by the end of the year. Kickstarter updates will includes images of all the 3D models as they are completed.

We need your support and pledges as Backers to make this happen and secure the future of Heavy Gear. The steel molds used for plastics are very expensive to make, just a small mold that only fits 1 or 2 miniatures can cost $5,000 to $8,000 USD and a larger mold to fit 4 to 6 miniatures costs between $12,000 and $15,000 USD. We want to produce an amazing core starter box with plastic models to go along with the new edition rules, but the mold costs make it beyond our means at present, which is why we are asking for your help. With the molds paid for, running plastic costs a lot less than pewter, so we can bring down our prices and make Heavy Gear Blitz more attractive to all players.

In addition, we are committed to domestic manufacturing and we plan to have all our plastics molded in the United States. This will give us better quality control, oversight of manufacturing. Expected delivery date for the Kickstarter Backers will be in Summer 2015. Checkout all the details below from pledge levels to stretch goals and add-on purchases we plan to have available as part of the Kickstarter.

Let us know what you think about the new Kickstarter plan (give us your feedback here). And most importantly share the news with, friends, family, local game store, game blog or website, every little bit helps get the word out and betters our chances of a successful Kickstarter.

FAQ:
Why is the Kickstarter in $CAD?
Dream Pod 9 is based in Canada and Kickstarter requires its use for Canadian Kickstarters. The Core Starter Box’s price of $115 CAD is about $105 USD.

What is an Arbalestier gear model?
The Arbalestier is fast large gear designed to provide heavy support to hovertank formations. It uses many of NuCoal's recent technological advancements from the Chasseur Mk2, Chevalier, and the Lancier. Alpha rules for this model will be released soon.

What is an Acco mount model?
The Acco provides Caprice forces with a small agile trooper mount that can counter the numerical superiority of Terra Novan Armies.

Does Dream Pod 9 have plans for other Kickstarters?
We will only considered another Kickstarter, after we have shipped all of our Backer rewards.

Does Dream Pod 9 have plans for a full color rulebook?
Yes, we do plan on producing a full size Deluxe Edition Color Rulebook in the future and we promise to take the time to do it right, with top quality editing, before taking it to publication.
