CSAT Marine platoon starting taking shape

Few days ago i started working on my CSAT Marines the bad guys of our Tomorrows War campaing agressor who threating freedom loving people of Confederation of Free City-States. I painted mine first AFV and also first squad plus platoon leader. Each squad is divided to two three man fireteams plus heavy drone and squadleader, but i will post Platoon and Company TOE sometime later.

I used Brigade CDSU miniatures for this which while they are not as nice as GZG ones and somewhat harder to paint i like their style and envoking that evil that CSAT should represent anyway here are few photos of the squad no.1 plus Rhino MBT and Platoon leader

What i found most is lack of poses if i compare them to other manufactures, only two types of special weapons (ML and SAW) and while heavy drones are relativly nice the squad "light" drones are somewhat lacking

CSAT AFV

Yesterday i found out three Rhino MBTs in my pile of 15mm stuff (among the UNSC, Riflethings and few others things) And thinking to add them to my CSAT force for Campaing. Thing is assembling the turrets isnt easy especialy without pinning but i found turret from Monsabert MBT (From eurofed line) i put those together. To my suprise it work very well.

Today i tried experiment little with scheme and it work out realitivly well simple two color camo digi camo, while i am not 100 procent satisfated with this particular vehicle color wise i think this camo will work. Now only need to find name for this CSAT tank. Hades MBT is is quite striking so i will stay with this name for now

Epsilon Eridani focus: Coaliton of Southern Allied Territories

We launched little Tomorrows Campaing focusing on battle on forgotten colony named Epsilon Eridani. After long cold war between two nations from this planet Confederation of Free City-states and Coalition of Southern Allied Nations - CSAT launched suprising invasion on COFC soil.
Formerly for first mission i used NAC figures but since i ordered CDSU miniatures from Brigade games i tried to paint one.

Southern Republic was one of the first colony state on Epsilon Eridani. About 120 years ago the Republic launched expansionist war which formed CSAT - militaristic regime ruled by Autrarch and High council. Only forming "counter-alliance" COFC stopped CSAT war efforts.
While service in military isnt compulsary certain positions in goverement and education can be only accesible if you are served in CSAT military.

CSAT Military
is well trained, motivated and equipped. While "premier" divisions are sporting cutting-edge technology, others particulary those stationed deep in south, are equipped with technology that was obsolete 20 years ago. This leads to extreme where 3rd Cavalry division is equipped with Grav based vehicles supported by 3rd Generation of Battle drones, While 9th Reserve Infantry division is equipped mostly with Trucks and self propelled field guns. Drones are common among CSTA forces, mainly as Heavy Weapons teams and recon teams. Most of the CSAT Army still using whelled and tracked vehicles which are compareble to the COFC AFVs.

CSAT Special Forces 
Most foremost known are Orbital Drop Shock Troops premier "airborne" unit capable of striking anywhere on planet within few hours. In concept these troops once landed are light infantry which need to be relieved soon so they are mainly used to surgical strikes before any larger operations knocking out communications, hq bunkers etc.

Mobile Armoured Division or MAD in short are only Power Armor unit in entire CSAT military force. While called division their platoons are distributed throught whole military, mainly to the frontline units. While suits itselfs can be hot-dropped very few platoons are trained this way and very rarely used.

CSFB or Coaltion Special Forces Battalion are only "true" special force in CSAT but used as last resort unit for High Council and Autarch for whom they serve as elite bodyguards. These troops are trained in assasinations, HVT extractions, sabotage, espionage and other "black operations"

Civilian Life
The common citizen in CSAT is happy as long as he didnt step up againts Autarch or Council. Even while propaganda is everywhere, citizens have access to information (althought somewhat tiden up) ,modern technologies and leisure.
On the other side there is secret police arresting any persons who shows any signs of rebelions. Everything is monitored, tv channels you watched, news and articles you read. Those who are arrested are never seen again.

Alternative Armies (respektivě Loud Ninja games) rozšířil svou řadu Ikwen o CC veterány tyto
ješterkoidní lowtech mimozemštany jsou obzvlaště vhodní jako insurgenti pro scénaře ala Avatar (tzv. reverse invasion)

Lazy Games tento měsic také vydali finalní verzi hry Round of Fire která je k dispozici na stránkách Wargaming Vault. jedná se v mnoha směrech inovativní pravidla hlavně co se týče sekvence herního kolo a stavby armády, cena je nyní 9.99 dolarů což je za půl darma!

Clearhorizon se objevil s novým "civilním" policejním 6-kolovým vozidlem Arbitrator, není přiliš vhodne pro "vojenské" scénaře ale určitě své uplatnění najde třeba v Gruntz Specops.

Armies army poté co prodal své pěchotní modely firmě Brigade Models, nově předal vozidla firmě Scene UK. Zajímavou novinkou je také to že svou Cold War řadu vozidel a pěchoty prodal firmě Plastic Soldier Company. Uvidíme s čím přijde příště.

V blízké době bychom chtěli spustit narativní minikampaň ve hře Tommorows War zasazenou po udalostech v knize By Dagger or Talon přesněji do roku 2331.

Před deseti lety zautočili mimozemské síly znamé jako Darghaur na kolonii Glory, rozdělené lidstvo nakonec porazilo mimozemské invazní sily ale je více než jasne že se nepřítel vrátí.

o 10 let později Zautočí Darghaur tvrdě a nekopromisně jejich cílem je několik světu včetně Grissomu přesneji na orbitalní doky Armstrong yards kde lidé před dekádou stavěli lodě pro TF Assassin které byli klíčové pro vítězství na Glory. Armáda které napadla lidské soustavy je mnohem větší než tu kterou lidé potkali na Glory. 

Nadešla nejtemnější hodina lidstva, jednotky napříč systémy se zoufale braní proti nepříteli který je převyšuje nejen počtem ale i technologickou urovní , dokáží i tentokrat lidé Darghaury porazit nebo náš oheň zasne navždy?

O kampaňi 
Během kampaně se bude používat standartní kampaňový systém obsažený v pravidlech Tommorow´s War, zatímco jedni hrači se ujmou velení nad lidmi a silami Marshbornu (tzv.Kreveťáků) druhá čast povede Darghaury a jejich spojence. po odehraní určitého počtu scénařu podle random generatoru se bude hrát jeden ze specializovaných scénařu.

Volaní do zbraně
Samozřejmě hrači lidi si mohou vybrat TOE obsažených v pravidlech ať už TW nebo By Dagger or Talon. lze samozřejmě hrát jakykoliv národ obsažený v přiběhové linii TW - Brity,Francouze nebo i nezminěné klidně i České vojáky v 24.století.
v připadě tvorby TOE budu k dispozici.

 Poznej svého nepřítele - DARGHAUR
 Organizační struktury DARGHAUR a "staty" jsou dobře popsané v knize By Dagger or Talon. Je samozřejmě možné hrát i mimozemské Taken nebo žoldnéře ve službách Darghaurské hordy. Pokud by chtěl použit nějaké trochu jiné mimozemštany jako jsou například Krystrial od Micropanzeru nebo Chittery od GZG popř Lidské vojáky ve službách Darghauru (ano i ADVENT je možný ) určitě nebude problém se domluvit.

Vozidla pro DARGHAURy
Darghaurové budou použivat modely od GZG z řady Kra´vak, jejich staty nahodím na blog během několika dnu pro Taken a ostatní mimozemské rasy pak dle domluvy, je také možné protože TW je primarně zaměřena na pěší boj ale nepočitejte s tím že se vozidla neobjeví, během kampaňě se dočkame přepadaní konvoju nebo obsazovaní výsadkové lodě, ale i osvobozovaní zajetců či níčení tzv. Hard Targets.

Jak žačit.
Doma samozřejmě mám pro připadne zajemce dvě menší platoony (US a Brazilce) ale samotná pořizovací náklady nejsou v 15mm tak velké pěší četa se dá pořidit v cenové relaci od 9 liber , mechanizované pak od 30 liber.

Tommorow war demo/AAR

Yesterday we perform demo game of Tomorrows war from Ambush Alley Games.
The scenario was set durning 2nd Interstellar war on Discovery colony. Durning NEU campaing againts OPS unknown object fall into one of the smaller towns. The object was indentified by both combatants as pod of unknown origins - both Brazil Marines and US droptroops was sended to area to identify object and gather inteligence.

The US forces arrived first and got first turn while Brazil forces slowly advancing and set up perimeter.


"This is Talon 1, we arrived at AO, no signs of hostiles, proceeding with mission over."

US soldiers advanced slowly scouting for any resistance, but Brazilians we´re waiting for them to give them pleasant welcome.

Scout team equipped with single SAW proceed toward church, while rest of platoon took more direct route, one fireteam established OP in tower next to the crossroads.

"Talon 3 to Talon 1! we are being enga......"
"This is Talon 1! repeat your last transmission over!"

Brazilian forces start pushing US forces back

US troops entered bilding overlooking second road but was quickly engaged by Brazilian Spiderdrones nicknamed "Arachnids", second team moved to figure out what happened to the first team. In following firefight they managed to knock out one of two drones. Recon team established strongpoint in church and engaged Brazil fireteam in orchard which pulled back behind wall.

"Talon 1 to King six! we are being engaged by NEU infantry! 20+ footmobiles supported by SAGPs!"

The US assault lost momentum but managed to knock out second SAGPs and Brazil start advancing keeping pressure on enemy.
two fireteams moved forward to fix US fireteams. Under heavy fire US forces managed to gain foothold in building near pod.

Both forces being tired, low on ammunition , US Commander decided to make dash toward pod with single fireteam but was caught in brutal crossfire and eventualy whole team were tear down by enemy fire.
the game ended as marginal victory for Brazilians, since they managed to inflict more losses on US  althought pod was not recovered by any side.


My friend was very excited by game mechanics, and intensity of game (it was his first hard scifi wargaming battle) so expect more reports in future.

5150: Fighter Command where to get fighters, and some capital ships ideas

As i was little sceptic about Two hours wargames 5150: Fighter Command, reading through rules (after some solo playtest i will post review) i am getting more and more excited about it , though my friends are hooked with Xwing maybe i can convice them for some game especially when they see that really big Columbia-Class Battlestar right in the middle of table and them fight off every cylon attack - i think that will be very convincing. Any way as i am big fan of Space Combat sims (shame that genre died with Starlancer - but recently we get fix in form Wing Commander Saga and Diaspora) i will not end with BSG setting. so i wrote this "guide" for everyone intersted.

We will start with fighter/bomber minis and move up to Capship ideas


EM4 Plastics
propably most used set for space dogfighting, EM4 have set of plastic fighters from Metal Express Silent Death game - it contains 12 different space fighters, but for price less than 3 pounds (2.55 is i checked recently) you can have squadrons build up in no time. this is only set i am aware that is sold in hard plastic detailed review you can find here (unfortunately in Czech http://battlefieldpilsen.blogspot.cz/2012/08/em4-spacecraft.html)

Metal Express
Speaking of Silent Death, Metal Express still selling its fighter/gunboat range counting over 140 individual fighters. Alien ships, Human ships you name it while some designs are little retro, there are ships which fits into many settings (WC-like and so on) , and they are planning release more fighters soon.

Company which is know more for their 6mm miniatures but they also selling range of space fighters . but these fighters are little big so you can use them as corvettes or other cap ships .

Well known miniature maker of Fantasy and Scifi 28mm (his aquatic monsters are known to be fielded as bio ships in Fleet scale games) but also maker of forgoten game CAV which has scale 10mm, this range have few VTOLs which can be used as transports, bombers or even smaller CAPships but maybe even heavy fighters.

Best reseller of fighter scale miniatures in my book. miniatures you are getting from this vendor have top notch quality control, almost no mould lines and defects. If you are looking for setting specific fighters this is the place where to come - non-BS G , non-Star War s, and even old Wing Commander machines worth of checking out. but beware the photos on his shop are bad, but in reality his minis are top of the line.

Brigade Models

Brigade models have their own range of scifi fighters specially designed for their game and world - Squadron Commander the game is free but not my cup of tea. you should also check 6mm rangfe VTOLs , i personaly want to use angelsharks (i own two for my 6mm army) as assault boats/ small transports

Iron Wind/Aerotech

Durning golden ages of FASA and games like Battletech there was supplemental game called Aerotech, which simulated aerial combat in Battletech universe. this miniatures are still sold by Iron Wind, and while most of larger ships are not usable in FC the fighter are top notch. however some larger ships are still usable as transport frigates

Various 6mm Scifi retailers

Most of 6mm scifi retailers will sell VTOLs while not every model is usable most of them are in some way for few examples: Microworld, GZG, Plasmablast games, Dark realms miniatures and so on. DRM for example have very nice range of small and big aircrafts , alien and human alike.

Shapeways

Another great sources is Shapeways,many people established shops there and selling their 3d models as miniatures via shapeways. worth to try if you are looking for something specific however little pricey.

Another good sources of models  fighters are collectible miniatures like Mechwarrior Dark Age, Statrek or Star wars everything from Wizard Of The Coast

Capital ships are different beast, they didnt have dedicated models, there is no reseller of Capship models in fighter scale, so we need look into few sources

1) Collector models like Mass Effect ships, Terminator, Serenity, Star Trek and so on.

good source for these are Ebay or Amazon

2) Scifi Plastic and Resin Models in various scales for Example Battlestar Galactica from Revell,Moebius or Timeslip creatious, or even Japan Anime series ships - Battleship Yamato, Gundam and others. good sources for these models are Hobby Link Japan

3rd Option is scrathbuilding, kitbashing and so on, there is lot of various options here but with Mad mecha containers its fairly easy to build up cargo haulers. here is pic of what of what one member of 5150 FC facebook group build up

Capital ships space combat

While various players prefer historical or modern battlefields, there those - and iam sure that there are lot of us who love the epic battle scenes where space capital ships firing and destroying itself in deadly gauntlets.

you see it in various movies and shows - Star trek, Star wars, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly,Stargate series, Babylon 5, Battleship Yamato  and many others. same goes for books - Warhammer 40.000, Honor series, Battlestar Prometeus,Crimson worlds or even classics like Enders game. Even Pc games starting from EVE: Online, Homeworld series, Nexus to even less known games like Flotila or  Stellar Impact

There are lots of gaming rules for space combat, Firestorm:Armada, StarArmada, Task Force Zeta, Battle Fleet Gothic  to A  Sky full of Ships. but ruleset that far most popular around world is old Venerable Full Thrust which comes through various reedition and remastering by players, and with cooperation there is 3rd Edition of FT on way.

so apart from famous ranges (Babylon 5, Star Trek TOS and other official ranges) we will look on other ranges what they have to offer to casual new player.
Brigade games created ships for their own universe called Iron Cow now featured in game Stararmada X: Brigade. their range contains 10 different nations , two of them are aliens. personally i dont much like design of the ships they lacked deepth of GZG models but now the new range called british came out i changed my mind these new ships are more than good (and germans or american rep. aren´t bad either

Ground zero Games, IMHO the best and largest ranges on market up today. Created specially for Tuffleyverse which is featured in Full thrust,Dirtside II and Stargrunt II games. the Full thrust range contains 16 different nations, four of them are alien - two of biological origin, one your typical warlike aliens and lastly hightech crusties ships which were long labeled as mysterious fleet. also the models are some of the best on market , and Jon from GZG is good bloke and always there to help you out, the postage is little higher but you get your stuff here in europe really fast - in matter of days. (cca up to three days)

Zandris IV one of the smallest vendors in space gaming wargaming currently offering 3 different ranges , two oftem resambles ships from famous space combat game, there was fourth alien race but it is discontinued and offered only two ships but they were closest to the Shivans from Freespace series i have found yet. i personaly own ships from them,  and they were flawless, quick delivery worth money.





Antenocitis workshop got FATC Hiigarian fleet  that means if you join not-Vaygr forces from Z4 and these Hiigarians you can wargaming battles from HW2, the miniatures are really nice somewhat big but really nice, however you can buy them only in deal packs which is shame also the price tag isnt much player friendly.

Ravenstar miniatures got some archaic style of buying, pics of things showed on blog and you must order via
mail, pretty strange but otherwise great service. lots of non-BSG ships from Battlestars( of various size and classes) through Basestars to civilian fleet, essential for every BSG fan. he also selling his Cold navy range which are greatly designed.  they also selling some 1" scale non-BSG fighters for those who are intersted in dogfighting




Studio Bergstrom had some nicest ranges based on movie or pc series. like Ravenstar they also produce 1" Scale fighters, and few original ranges like Hive or ORC, ever want to field Rodger Young cruiser? here is your chance.

B-3 Designs is old sculptor of B5 ships for Call to Arms: Babylon 5, he got his range of his own for B5 and BSG while it is not big there are many original designs even with backstory excelent. also got range for fleetscale ST fighters and range of B5 1" scale fighters still itching to get some Star Furies and Nials for Tacship/BSG Mass combat and do some dogfighting.

Agents of Gaming aren´t sculptors, they are selling old aging ranges from fallen games like Babylon 5 Wars or GROPOS. for B5 gaming you got everything here.


there is big Star ranger comunnity where not only players gather but also sculptors and vendors lots of various talk, battlereports, advices inspiration and so on. Protolene Khanate je první frakci mimozemštanu psovitých šelem které se značně skláda z battlesuitu - bojových obléku které však už jsou větší než standartní power armour. Těchto suitu zde nalezneme hodně variant z různým vybavením a výzbrojí od kulometů,přes raketomety až po radary a různé energetické zbraně dále následují velký walkeři kde každý kit lze sestavit v několika variantách. ale existují v podstatě ve třech archetypech - Marrok který chodí po dvou, Okami který jde po čtyřech a Fenrir který funguje jako bojový transport.

Kaamados Dominion je sdružení několika mimozemských ras a z vozidlové stranky obsahují tři typy průzkumné vozidlo Gekotta, Obří transportér Dractamaa a Super heavytank výzbrojený dvěma railguny z názvem Dragamaa

Presentia je prastarou vesmírnou vymírající rasou proto jejich jednotky tvoří hlavně mechanické jednotky, vozidla však tvoří pouze podivné bojové drony od uplně malých až po větší které jsou ve velikosti tanků ARC.

Mercenaries jsou poslední variantou u CMG každé vozidlo existuje ve dvou variantách - pásové a grav.
vozidlové typy jsou nasledující transporter Bastion IFV, střední tank Havoc, těžký tank Warmonger, samohybná houfnice Vanquisher a nakonec protiletecká platforma Hellfire

Tuto firmu nebudeme zabírat nějak extra dohloubky protože její výběr vozidel který se velice často rozrůstá je obří. nalezneme tu mimozemské (Crusties) Walkery , Kra´vakské vozidla na grav pohonu ale nespočet pozemských vozidel - na grav pohonu, vzduchovém polštaři nebo vybavené koly či pasy.
krom těchto vozidel samozřejmně různé grav-motorky,drony ale také VTOLy nebo i lidské mechy a walkery

ACP Games
Vcelku neznáma Americká firma vyvíjecí herní systém Valkyrie, relativně malé studio vyrabějící zatím pouze APC, gravbiky a battlesuity nepodobné Heavy gearům. výběr je zatím opravdu malý ale uvidíme jak se rozroste každopadně hlavní designer s jmeném JJ Burrell pracoval delší dobu v Reaperu na vývoji miniatur CAV takže se mužeme těšit na hodně zajímavé designy.




Rebel Miniatures
 Známa americká firma ve výrobě 15mm podobně populární jako GZG či Khurasan toho ve vozidlech muže nabídnout také mnoho. Malá vozítka v několika typech první Commanche a Apache připomínají scifi verze Amerického HMMWV zatímco Gila je klasická ozbrojená bugina. dále nelezneme několik typu grav tanků - s různou vyzbrojí od raket až po energetický kanón, samohybnou houfnici i scifi verzi ruské Merkavy, k tomu několik APC 3 druhy VTOLů (jeden podobný spíše hindu ty další jsou spíše západního typu). aby tioho nebylo málo Rebel vyrabí i Battlesuity Wildcat a Tomcat, obrané věže ,bojové roboty Viper a celé to ukončují Mimozemské walkery které jako by vypadli ze scifi druhé poloviny minulého století.

Brigade models
Britská firma která se dříve zabývala hlavně výrobou 6mm vozidel se nyní snaží tyto vozidla převést do měřítka 15mm mezi nejnovější patří PACFED paradní řada grav-vozidel, ačkoliv jsou v nabídce další vozidla je třeba si počkat protože jsou tvořeny na "truescale 15mm) přičemž většina scifi pěchoty je trošičku větší (dělají to hlavně výstroj a podstavce) takže tyto truescale vozidla nevypadají uplně inscale. přesto najdete zajímavé kousky.
avšak tyto vozidla nejsou jediné zajímavě na BM například jejich Aeronef a Ironclad 2mm hry které se zabívají bojem v alternativní steampunkové historii.
Vesmírné lodě a stíhače pro boje ve vesmíru (Hra Armada X a Squadron Commander) Celtos fantasy 28mm hru ale i  modely pro 28mm První světovou válku.

Americká firma specializující se na výrobu vozidel v měřítku 15mm. od grav tanků až po ty pasové, různá APC,Tanky,Jeepy,dělostřelctvo ale taky UAV či mechy. velice pěkné jsou i ceny  400-500 za tři vozidla hell yeah navíc jejich deal pack na GEV vozidla obsahující 3 main battle tanky, 6 transportérů, jednoho průzkumného tanku a jednoho raketometného tanku v ceně 60 dolarů čili cca 1200 korun je opravdu nevýdaná cena.

Antenociti Workshop
Firma která je známa hlavní diky doplňkům na tvorbu terénu a scifi terénu pro infinity vyrabí taktéž vozidla jak v měřítku 28mm tak v 15mm.
pokud někdo schaní opravdu Hightech vozidla podobná těm ze scifi filmu posledních let tak AW je jasnou volbou.
nyní jejich range obsahuje Jeepy Zeebu a Warthog, lehké APC Hunchback, Scifi hybrid bradleyho a strykera Kabardin a lehký grav tank Scorpion


Khurasan miniatures a Old Crow
Ačkoliv obě dvě tyto firmy mají veliky range vozidel jsou nyní na Hiastusu čili momentalně neprodávají. Khurasan by se měl vrátit koncem měsíce a OC má rozdělaný filmový projekt (majitel OC pracoval i na rekvizitách napřiklad pro film Hellboy) k těmto dvou firmám se vratíme až opět budou v provozu.

Ravenstar
Ravenstar začal vyrábět miniatury relativně nedávno cca 1-1,5 roku zpátky, ale i za tuto krátkou dobu byl schopen vytvořit relativně velký range. Vozidla jsou hodně inspirované Japonským Anime i když nemají klasický Gundam feel. kromě Mechů ,tu nalezneme grav tanky ale i VTOL. jako nevýhodu tohoto shopu je archaické objednávaní nicmeně kvalita stojí za to.


Ostatní menší výrobci
 Samozřejmně to nejsou všechny možnosti ale spíše vycuc toho nejlepšího co je na trhu, některé další si představíme v dalších člancích o vozidlech pro 15mm hry. důležité je kouknout se i na vozidla v měřítku 6mm napřiklad tzvn bricks od GZG nyní prodávané firmou Deamonscape  jsou skvělé výsadkové lodě schopné pojmout dvě lehká vozidla v měřítku 15mm.
